How to make a backup copy the DVD you have bought.

How many times have you been and bought a DVD, watched and then only to find a few days later it won’t play. Maybe it’s gotten scratched or the children have been watching, and well you know how it goes. It gets dropped, finger prints all over it  and so on. I have children and it happens all the time, it did when they were younger, and they are not cheap to replace. So I was on a mission to find some software to do this. After some time and trying a few, I came across one-piece of software that works well. My kids are happy and so am I, I do not have to go and spend more money replacing DVD’s that are scratched.

Now bear in mind it is usually illegal to make backup copies of your DVD. Nevertheless, I believe you should have the right to do so. You’ve paid your hard earned money to buy the DVD and all you want to do is keep watching. Specially, children, they watch them more over and again.

So you’re going to need some software to help you make a backup copy of the DVD and there is a fair amount out there that will allow you do this. I use DVD SHRINK, which is a freeware piece of software, which you can download, and use free, on their site it does ask you to make a donation.

Once downloaded and install your almost ready to go.
DVD you would go out and buy and mainly on a DUAL LAYER disk. 8.5 GB’s (DVD9) and most people only buy SINGAL LAYER disk 4.5 GB’s (DVD5). This isn’t a problem with DVD SHRINK as it will shrink the size of the original and make it fit on a normal 4.5 GB disk.

Just put the disk into your DVD you want to copy into the DVD rewriter. Shrink with then read the disk, and then after its done reading the disk, click copy. This will then start to make a copy, first by coping the files from the DVD onto your hard drive. When this is done, it will ask you for a blank DVD, take out the original DVD and put in a blank DVD, and it will start to burn the DVD. With an hour, all-depending on your computer, you will have a backed up copy of your bought DVD.

Take care and have fun.
